Selling Charcoal is Selling Well Before the New Year

Charcoal traders achieve multiple turnovers ahead of the new year. The activity of grilling corn, satay, fish or meatballs is a common agenda chosen by residents to celebrate the new year.

Bujang, a charcoal trader at Pasar Pagi, Pasar Minggu, Bengkulu City, sells wood and coconut shell charcoal. Wood charcoal is sold at a higher price because the quality of the fire and the heat of the coals are considered to be more durable.

One pack of charcoal is sold starting from Rp5,000, Rp10,000 to Rp20,000. Or you can buy a sack for Rp50,000.

“We welcome it from our people, the big sacks, packed in small pieces. The most troublesome thing is when it rains, people don’t want to buy charcoal if it’s wet,” said Bujang when met at Pasar Minggu (12/27/2024).

Meanwhile, Riris, another trader, also said that the main obstacle to selling charcoal is when it rains. Damp charcoal usually cannot be sold, unless it is dried again.

“That’s why I don’t bring a lot, so that if it rains it won’t be difficult. In the warehouse, there are still many who use 50-kilo sacks,” said Riris.
